Common mistakes you can avoid before going for a Job Interview

The impression a job applicant creates during an interview matters the most considering; it’s the first one to one communication with the company you’re applying to. Knowing how organization’s can be huge and do not have the time to know their employees personally, an Interview is the very first and the last chance for you to create an impact and be remembered as a unique candidate for which something; as simple as your attire can also play a major role. The way a person carries themselves along with their attire reflects the non-verbal resume of that particular person based on which your interview is influenced. If you go wearing draggy jeans and dirty shoes to your interview, be assured that you will never get a call back.
Following are some of the dressing mistakes you can avoid for an interview-
·        Don’t wear flashy colors- While choosing an outfit for an interview make sure that your color patterns are confined to mild and dark tones as it can tone down the attention from your clothing and allow the interviewer to focus on you. Wearing bright colors like red, orange, yellow, etc, can show the inappropriateness in your attire and can make even a formal attire look casual.
·        Don’t choose casual clothing and put a blazer on top- Many people think that putting a blazer on top of a tee-shirt or a camisole can make it look like you’re wearing a formal attire. On the contrary, it is clearly visible and in fact reflects how less effort you have put in for the preparation of the interview, which can in turn show a careless behavior/personality. For women they should be careful that during an interview the clothes they choose are appropriate and doesn’t show-off a lot, for men they must avoid turning casual wear into formals.
·        Don’t look shabby or overdue your make-up- Men must avoid going to interviews with untrimmed hair and beard, which can make them look shabby and untidy reflecting a care-free behavior. Women should tone down on the make-up and avoid using flashy eye-shadows and lipsticks or leaving their hair loose or un-tied
·        Don’t wear a lot of accessories- Men and Women both must dial down on the accessories they choose to wear which do not go with your formal outfit at all. A simple stud earrings and matching tie and cufflinks will do the trick
·        Don’t carry flashy gadgets or headphones- Make sure you are not carrying any flashy or unnecessary gadgets like iPod, iPad, tablets etc. to your interview, if it is not necessary as it can potray that you might be a bit of a show-off. Open your earplugs and headphones before entering the room and don’t hang it anywhere around your neck or someplace where it is clearly visible. Remain sober and formal.
·        Don’t choose the wrong footwear- Footwear and the way you carry it is visible in your personality and posture, avoid wearing slippers especially for men. Women can choose to wear sandals; however, it should not be very flashy and draw attention towards your feet. Wearing clean, properly polished and formal footwear is essential for both men and women
·        Don’t’ wear wrinkled or dirty clothes- Stained clothes, wrinkles and dirty clothes can make a terrible impression in front of your interviewer.
The tips mentioned above should be strictly followed as it is a formal environment no matter how casual your workplace can be later on. Recruitment firms in Pune, recruitment firms in Delhi, recruitment firms in Chandigarh and many other cities, make sure that the applicants are well-aware of all these instructions as well as cater to the ongoing trend in each state. A placement consultant in Chennai may ask a candidate to wear a formal attire followed in the state and a recruitment firm in Mumbai may say something else, however the crux of properly dressing up for an interview is always the same. The rest of the etiquettes depends on you and how you carry yourself. Always remember First Impression is the Last Impression!
